Reviewing the June edition Part 1

Looking over the current edition, I must say I am happy with it. It captures what I envision the magazine to be. And it is a good blueprint for future editions.

Initially, I was supposed to follow up with the Miramar Pembroke Pines chamber, but in doing some research, I spoke to Joe Catrambone over at the Stuart Martin County chamber. Joe was so helpful that I thought it would be a nice touch to include him. Dr. Lycett-Davis was eager to be of assistance and I hope her trip to the Jamaican Diaspora conference is a success.

Ocho Rios Jerk wasn't my first choice for the kick-starting this project but in hindsight it turned out to be a perfect choice. Robin Treston epitomizes the idea behind my efforts as he has so much to offer from years of experience. In fact there are things that did not make the article but were very interesting. He talked about the attitudes of customers that frequent his restaurant from who were the most pleasant to who were the most insulting. Quite an interesting tidbit there.

The Coaching with Tanya article was fun to put together. Coach Tanya is the perfect interview candidate. I really don't think we scratched the surface! What I like most about that piece in particular is that the majority of it was not Caribbean specific. Tanya did point out that the majority of her clients are not Caribbean which is good because as professionals and entrepreneurs away from "home" we are conducting business not only in our own demographic.

Coaching is an intriguing field for me. I don't think I could appreciate the idea of coaching ten years ago and I am tempted to think that valuing this field comes with maturity (not just age wise but experience as well). I think it becomes more valuable as someone becomes more in that self fulfillment stage (some guy named Maslow is coming to mind). I also wonder about the demographics of the people who are business coaches versus life coaches and the same makeup of those who need business versus life coaching. I would love to see a study of some kind along those lines. I will be doing some more reading up on this field in the future.

In her blog, Tanya spoke about rearranging photos within a picture frame, that once done the simple act served to relieve some anxiety she was experiencing. You can link to that blog entry here and read. I think it would be well worth it.

Will talk about Spirit in a separate post but let me know your thoughts on this edition.
